About this Service
I have been a social worker for more than 30 years and enjoy working with people when they are struggling with an issue. The thought that I will be part of your journey is exciting for me. I have worked 15+ years with adults and children experiencing chronic illness and another 10 years working with the TX Army National Guard. In working with the military, I had the honor of working not only with the Service member or Veteran, but also with their family members. Regardless of who I have worked with, there are some specific areas I have addressed. These areas include: grief and loss, depression, difficulty adjusting to a new situation or event. Many things take adjustments, even things that are “good” and we are excited about. These might include marriage, going off to college, a new job or a new baby. Others may or may not not be as exciting for us, things like: moving, separations, death and many more. Often we need a little support to help make the adjustment go as smoothly as possible.
My counseling style is easy going and supportive. I believe it is most effective to examine where you are now and where you want to go. I help my clients build a path from one to the other, if you don’t know where you want to go we can explore that together. At times we might look into the past and see how that is affecting where you are but it often is not critical to moving forward. I am happy to work with anyone who wants the support I have to offer. I have no hesitancy when working with any race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identification or other “labels” we put on people. It is my personal belief we all have value and something special to offer this world, we have the right to be in the best place possible to bring that forward.
I have a Master’s degree from the University of Texas and am Certified by the National Association of Social Workers as a Military, Veteran and Trauma Clinical Social Worker (MVF-CSW). I have specialized training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Deployment Related Trauma (CPT). In addition I offer Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), solution focused therapy and many more. I am sure we can find a fit for you and your needs.
In addition to the Specialties listed below, I have significant experience with the following:
