Paris van Simmons is a licensed psychotherapist, trained in providing advanced clinical drug and alcohol counseling. He obtained an undergraduate degree in psychology and neuroscience from the University Of Pittsburgh, where he partnered with researchers at the Learning Research and Development Center to study how policy and educational reform initiatives can improve instruction, child learning and achievement . He is passionate about educating and nurturing individuals with various needs. He completed the Master of Professional Counseling at Carlow University with a concentration on substance misuse and process addictions.

More About Me:

I empower individuals to overcome personal obstacles to improve their relationships. Provide person-centered SOGIE and LGBTQI+ informed services. Implementing evidenced-based interventions and best practices I have worked with many individuals struggling with substance abuse and related issues with Allegheny County Department of Human Services by providing supplemental targeted case management services to recently released state and county inmates. I am a regular provider of services at Allegheny County Jail, where I discuss various substance abuse and mental health wellness topics, and have presented to Allegheny County professionals on how to address their clients’ emotional, personal, and substance abuse needs. I have supported individuals with severe pervasive mental illness in residential treatment settings promoting mental and emotional stability and wellness. I currently provide auxiliary supports to foster parents and youth as the staff clinician serving as interventionist and family educator to Specialized Foster Care providers in addition to provided trauma-informed care services to the youth in care. I also provide routine SOGIE and LGBTQI+ specific psychoeducation and training to foster care parents and staff in addition to serving two LGBTQ initiative committees within the healthcare system.

I specialize in substance misuse and process addictions client-specific anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I enjoy connecting with my clients and facilitating personal growth. I see therapy as a wellness endeavor and therefore beneficial to anyone. My theoretical approach is integrative, based on an existential-phenomenological orientation and informed by psychodynamic thought, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), interpersonal therapy (IT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
