About this Service
My philosophy about counseling is simple; I see it as a change process to improve quality of life. I work best with clients who are invested in becoming better versions of themselves and are willing to do the hard work required to achieve personal and/or relationship goals. I have been a practicing therapist for over 20 years with experience working in a variety of settings to include community clinics, university health centers and private practice. My graduate school training and beyond has largely been informed by systems theory that seeks to understand issues relationally (relationship with self and with others). I also find cognitive/behavioral and emotionally focused therapeutic approaches appealing because of the emphasis on the connection between thoughts, feelings and actions. I value my clients as the experts on their lives and I view myself as the expert on the change process; together, we work collaboratively towards success as defined by the client. At the core of my practice is a belief in the power of self love – when people learn to love themselves more, what they expect, accept and create changes accordingly.
