Dr. C. Amber Welsh
About this Service
In anticipation of working with you, please let me introduce myself. I am an Organizational Psychologist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in a variety of roles such as change management leader, medical researcher, addiction counselor, and psychotherapist. I have dealt with topics such as career challenges, depression, addiction, grief, and trauma – both personally and professionally. I have been with my husband since I was 17 (we met in high school), I have two adult children, lived in 4 different states in the U.S., and travelled Europe extensively.
What I have learned through all of this is that we are more open when life pressures us to change; when we can’t take the way things are anymore. Knowing this, I focus first and foremost on supporting you in your efforts to improve your life and in helping you discover your own strengths and motivators to stay the course until you achieve your desired goals (whether that is deep healing and forgiveness, broader understanding, or finding a solution to a problem) .
My counseling approach begins with getting to know you to understand your motivators, goals, triggers (i.e., what makes you react), and stuck points (i.e., what you struggle to move beyond). I see my role as that of a guide – to walk the path of change with you, pointing out elements that might have otherwise gone unnoticed, offering solutions and approaches to help you change, assisting you to be clear in your desired end point, and celebrating your successes along the way. I use counseling methods that are evidence-based (meaning research studies have shown their effectiveness), adjusting the combination of these methods to fit your needs and style. (If you want to google the techniques I tend to use, they are CBT/Cognitive Behavior Therapy, DBT/Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Therapy, SFT/Solution Focused Therapy, Exposure Therapy, and EMDR/Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.)
You are to be congratulated on taking this first step toward a better life. Well done! The next step is for you and I to connect and get to know each other. I look forward to walking this journey with you.
