Emergency, Crisis Situation or Feeling Suicidal?
In crisis situations, including those in which you are feeling suicidal or homicidal, please short-circuit the process of evaluating psychologists and go straight to a service designed for emergency support.
PsychTap.com recommends seeking immediate face-to-face support via your physician as the top priority if you are in crisis or are feeling suicidal or homicidal. If that is not immediately available to you within a few hours, or you feel unable or unwilling to contact your physician face-to-face, we recommend stopping by Befrienders Worldwide, which provides a list of of helplines that at last count included 725 helplines in 576 towns in every state of the union.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is also available online, or you can call 1-800-273-TALK (8255) any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to talk with a trained counselor in your area — they have 159 crisis centers across 49 states.
